Mysuru, April 10 (NationPress) H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, made a compassionate visit to the home of a severely ill woman in Hullalli village, located in the Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district, on Friday. This visit was prompted by a viral video that showcased her dire health situation, garnering widespread attention on social media.

The woman, named Pooja and aged 24, has been confined to her bed for months due to serious health issues. A local youth recorded a video highlighting her plight and encouraged viewers to share it until it reached Kumaraswamy. Upon seeing the footage, the minister took the initiative to visit her residence to evaluate her condition and provide support.

Kumaraswamy dedicated approximately 45 minutes to converse with Pooja, her husband Ravi, and her parents, Kumar and Sheela.

During his visit, he offered reassurances of support and comfort to the family, who were visibly moved by his presence. Pooja was overwhelmed with emotion upon seeing the minister.

Additionally, the minister gathered information about the family's circumstances from local residents, leaders of the Janata Dal (Secular), panchayat officials, and the tahsildar.

Kumaraswamy commended the youth, Chetan, who shared the video and helped shed light on Pooja’s situation.

Pooja has been battling a spinal condition, which has led to complications affecting her legs. She has undergone surgery on one leg, which was unsuccessful, and recently had another procedure on her other leg. Despite these interventions, her condition has not improved, and she remains unable to walk.

The family is currently experiencing significant financial difficulties; they do not have a permanent home and are residing in a cramped rented accommodation, struggling to pay a monthly rent of ₹3,000. Pooja's father had previously sold their house and a small parcel of land to finance her medical treatment. Pooja's husband, Ravi, is also bedridden following injuries sustained in a bus accident involving the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, leaving the family without any source of income.

In light of their situation, Kumaraswamy provided immediate financial aid for medical expenses.

Furthermore, he promised to facilitate the family’s relocation to a leased house within a week to ten days. He assigned local leaders, including MLA Harish Gowda and MLC Manjegowda, with the task of arranging housing and monitoring the family's needs.

The minister also contacted the landlord by phone, requesting additional time for the family on humanitarian grounds and offering to cover the lease himself. However, the landlord informed him that the property was being listed for sale.

Kumaraswamy then instructed local leaders to find alternative housing solutions and mentioned that he would consult with the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat regarding the matter.

The family also voiced concerns about the lack of progress in Ravi’s accident case, prompting Kumaraswamy to reach out to the relevant lawyer and later connect with the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, urging him to expedite compensation for the family.

The Managing Director assured that the issue would be addressed, potentially through a Lok Adalat.

The minister directed the tahsildar to assist in setting up a small shop for the family's livelihood and tasked party leaders to ensure that both Pooja and Ravi receive medical care in Mysuru. MLC S.N. Manjegowda also pledged support for the education of the couple’s children.

Several leaders, including MLA Harish Gowda, MLC C.N. Manjegowda, former MLA Mahadev, and Ashwin Kumar, along with other members of the Janata Dal (Secular), were present during this visit.

Earlier that day, Kumaraswamy, accompanied by his wife Anita, visited Chamundi Hills to offer prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari. He later made another visit to Nanjangud to pray at the Sri Nanjundeshwara temple, seeking blessings for the prosperity and well-being of the state.
