Kochi, Feb 13 (NationPress) After an extensive 46-day hospital stay filled with uncertainty, Congress legislator Uma Thomas has finally been discharged and is back home.

The unfortunate incident took place on December 29 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during a record-setting dance performance. As she was about to take her seat, she experienced a severe fall from a height of nearly 15 feet, resulting in multiple serious injuries, including fractured ribs that punctured her lungs and placed her in a critical state.

Medical professionals have labeled her recovery as a miracle. "She will need to rest completely for at least the next two months," stated her doctor.

Uma spent several days in the ICU, with her condition remaining precarious for over two weeks. However, she made significant progress and addressed the media before her discharge.

"I am profoundly grateful to every staff member at this hospital. Their care was exceptional. It took me several days to even realize I was hospitalized. I owe my recovery to them," she expressed.

During her hospitalization, she received widespread support, with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and various cabinet ministers, alongside political leaders from different parties, paying her visits. Vijayan noted that the whole state has been invested in her recovery, which brought joy to many.

However, the incident sparked controversy regarding inadequate security measures at the event. An investigation was initiated, leading to the arrest of three individuals who were later released on bail. The Greater Cochin Development Authority faced criticism for its supposed negligence.

Uma Thomas is the representative for the Thrikkakara Assembly constituency and stands as the only female Congress legislator in the Assembly. Following the death of her husband, veteran Congress leader P.T. Thomas, in December 2021, she entered politics and won the bypoll by a margin exceeding 25,000 votes.

As a former student leader, she is recognized for her respectful approach and well-informed speeches in the Assembly. Her late husband, P.T. Thomas, was known as one of CM Vijayan’s staunchest critics, leading to frequent disputes in the Assembly.
