Kerala High Court Criticizes Event Organizers for Ignoring MLA's Fall

Kochi, Jan 6 (NationPress) The Kerala High Court expressed strong disapproval on Monday towards the organizers of the dance event during which Congress legislator Uma Thomas fell from the stage, emphasizing that they should have halted the proceedings following the unfortunate incident.

The court's remarks were made while it reviewed the bail requests of Mridhanga Vision's owner Nigoshkumar, his spouse Mini C., and CEO Shameer Abdul Rahim related to the accident involving MLA Uma Thomas.

“What kind of cruelty is this? A person has fallen and sustained a head injury. Couldn’t you have paused the program for just half an hour? You could have waited until she reached the hospital. What harm would it have caused to delay the program until you found out her condition? There seems to be a lack of regard for human life. Regardless of whether it's an MLA or an ordinary citizen, such incidents warrant a cessation. She fell and hit her head, yet you proceeded with the festivities and the beating of the chenda,” the court remarked.

First-time MLA Thomas suffered serious injuries after falling from a height of 15 feet at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, managed by the CPI-M-led Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), during an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for a mass dance involving approximately 12,500 participants on December 29. She stumbled over a barricade near the VIP area after greeting state Culture Minister Saji Cherian.

She was admitted to a private hospital and was on ventilator support until Saturday. The medical team has indicated that she will require close monitoring as her rib injury heals. She is still in the intensive care unit, and it is anticipated that she will remain there for several more days.

The incident has led to a blame game, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation into the event’s execution. Additional controversy has surfaced due to widespread complaints regarding inadequate security measures at the large gathering. Three individuals have been arrested and subsequently released on bail, while the GCDA faced backlash for its negligent attitude, leading to the suspension of a female engineer for her failure to fulfill her responsibilities.

The court has requested the organizers to present the event brochure to ascertain the rationale behind charging participants, and the case has been scheduled for review on Friday.
