Kolkata, Sep 6 (NationPress) Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam emphasized on Saturday the necessity of possessing legal knowledge in our technologically advanced world, asserting that ongoing legal education is essential for everyone.
This statement was made during the inauguration of the newly constructed court building in Durgapur, located in the West Burdwan district.
“In the past, individuals could navigate their lives without a grasp of legal principles. However, in today's tech-driven environment, it is nearly impossible to progress without some legal comprehension,” he stated.
The Chief Justice elaborated that activities such as digital banking, online shopping, sharing content on social media, and even using mobile applications require users to consent to legal agreements known as 'Terms and Conditions.'
“By merely clicking these buttons, we are assuming significant legal obligations, many of which go unnoticed. Thus, having a fundamental understanding of the law is crucial for thriving in today's digital landscape,” he remarked.
He further pointed out that while land and property matters used to be straightforward, modern complexities such as multi-storey properties and housing societies necessitate a thorough examination of digital and legal documents. Therefore, consulting a lawyer at least once in one’s lifetime has become imperative.
Addressing young law students and youth, the Chief Justice stated, “You who have chosen to pursue law are the genuine advocates of social change in this digital era. Law extends beyond courtrooms; it is now intricately woven into our everyday lives.”
The new court building in Durgapur was constructed at an investment of around forty crores of rupees. The inauguration was attended by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, State Law Minister Malay Ghatak, and other dignitaries.
