Shillong, January 21 (NationPress) In a bid to enhance investment and advocate for sustainable agricultural practices, a two-day conclave titled “Holistic Development of Livestock Sector in North East India” is set to take place in Shillong on January 23, according to officials on Tuesday.
A senior official indicated that various projects will be introduced to benefit the northeastern populace, alongside a Memorandum of Understanding that will be established with the industry to stimulate investment in the region's livestock sector.
The primary goal of the ‘Livestock Conclave’ is to unite essential stakeholders to deliberate on strategies that encourage comprehensive growth in the livestock and poultry sectors across northeastern states.
Furthermore, the conclave seeks to evaluate the current conditions and obstacles in the sector, while identifying potential growth opportunities through improved value chains, technological advancements, and supportive policies, the official mentioned.
This event will also promote knowledge sharing and skill enhancement among participants, which include farmers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and researchers, all while endorsing sustainable and inclusive farming practices aligned with the one health approach.
The official pointed out that the Central government is actively implementing various flagship initiatives aimed at enhancing the animal husbandry, dairy, and livestock sectors.
These initiatives comprise the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) associated with the National Livestock Mission (NLM), the Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), and the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), all intended to boost productivity and foster sustainable livestock practices throughout the nation.
The conclave aims to yield results that will influence policy formulation, direct investment choices, and facilitate sustainable and inclusive advancement within the region's livestock and poultry sectors, as noted by the official.
Organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the conclave will be inaugurated by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (alias Lalan Singh), overseeing Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, as well as Panchayati Raj.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and other Ministers from the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Departments of northeastern states will also partake in this significant conclave.
The Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Alka Upadhyaya, along with other senior officials from the Department and principal Secretaries from northeastern states, will be present for the two-day discussions.
Additionally, the conclave will feature participation from crucial stakeholders, including scientists, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and private entities within the livestock and poultry sectors.
