New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) The cost of LPG cylinders has been raised by Rs 50 for each 14.2 kg cylinder, impacting both subsidised and non-subsidised users, effective from April 8, as announced by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
This hike affects beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) as well as other users.
“For PMUY beneficiaries, the price will increase from Rs 500 to Rs 550 per cylinder. For non-subsidised consumers, it will rise from Rs 803 to Rs 853,” the minister stated.
He indicated that this adjustment will be evaluated periodically every two to three weeks.
Earlier, on April 1, oil marketing companies had provided some relief by reducing the price of commercial LPG cylinders. The cost for a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was decreased by Rs 41, bringing the revised retail price in Delhi to Rs 1,762 per cylinder.
India relies on imports for around 60 percent of its domestic LPG usage, with the pricing in the country tied to international market rates.
The number of individuals receiving subsidised LPG under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has reached 10.33 crore as of March 1 this year, while the total number of active domestic LPG users in India is 32.94 crore, as reported in Parliament during the latest session.
The average global price of LPG surged by 63 percent from US$ 385/MT in July 2023 to US$ 629/MT in February 2025. However, the effective price for PMUY users for domestic LPG was lowered by 44 percent from Rs 903 in August 2023 to Rs 503 in February 2025, according to a written reply from Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi in the Lok Sabha.
Previously, the retail price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi was Rs 803, with a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder for PMUY consumers. The price had remained stable since August 2024.
