Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Set to Finalize MoA for Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal River Linking Initiative

Bhopal, Dec 4 (NationPress) Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stated on Wednesday that the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have reached a consensus to sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) concerning the Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal river linking project.

The minister revealed that the essential work on this river linking endeavor (Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal) between the two neighboring states will commence once the MoA is executed.

An earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this project, valued at Rs 75,000 crore, was signed in July of this year.

"The Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal river linking is a significant milestone for both states. An MoU has already been executed, and now both states have agreed to finalize the MoA shortly," Vijayvargiya expressed during a press briefing on Wednesday.

He further mentioned that this project would supply water to 13 districts in the Gwalior-Chambal and Agar-Malwa regions of Madhya Pradesh. It will also enhance irrigation across approximately 2.8 lakh hectares in both states, including the supplementation of route tanks.

During a visit to Madhya Pradesh in July this year, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma indicated that both states would reap benefits from the river-linking initiative, which would also fortify inter-state relations.

Notably, the Parbati River ranks as the third largest tributary of the Chambal River, traversing through Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. It originates from the Vindhyanchal ranges near Astha in the Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh at an elevation of 609 m and merges with the Chambal River in the Kota district of Rajasthan.
