Bhopal/Raipur, Sep 7 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has declared a financial aid of Rs 5 crore to the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh, which has been grappling with heavy rainfall that has led to a flood-like situation in various regions for over a week.
The Rs 5 crore will be allocated to the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's relief fund, along with essential supplies for those affected by the floods, as announced by Yadav during a press briefing in Bhopal.
In his statement, Chief Minister Yadav expressed his concern over the severe rainfall, which has resulted in devastating floods in numerous districts of Chhattisgarh, causing significant loss of life and property.
He stated, “As neighboring states, it is our duty to offer any assistance we can. The Madhya Pradesh government is committed to sending Rs 5 crore and essential supplies to support the Chhattisgarh government.”
Officials from the Chhattisgarh government informed IANS that the northern part of the state has been the hardest hit by the heavy rains, but they assured that the situation is being managed effectively, with stranded individuals being safely rescued and relocated to relief camps.
Reports indicate that around 20 lives have been lost in the state so far, including eight casualties in separate incidents over the last two weeks. However, the situation remains less dire compared to that of Punjab.
Authorities have conducted aerial surveys of the affected areas and are in the process of assessing the total damage to property and crops.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has also undertaken aerial and ground assessments of the flood-impacted regions in the Bastar and Dantewada districts, where eight fatalities occurred due to recent heavy rains.
More than 2,000 residents have been evacuated from low-lying areas in Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur, and Bastar districts.
According to official reports, the floods have resulted in the loss of eight lives, the death of 96 livestock, and damage to nearly 495 homes, as well as 16 culverts and bridges.
Tragically, eight individuals lost their lives when a section of the Luti (Satbahini) Dam in Dhaneshpur, Balrampur district, collapsed, triggering a flash flood in the vicinity on September 3.
