Madhya Pradesh to Establish Monitoring Cell for PESA Act Implementation

Bhopal, Dec 28 (NationPress) The government of Madhya Pradesh is set to establish a dedicated unit aimed at supervising the initiatives under the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act.
This newly formed unit will operate under the auspices of the state’s Tribal Affairs Department, which has been assigned the responsibility of ensuring the effective application of the PESA Act.
The Act was enacted in Madhya Pradesh in November 2022.
During a review meeting held on Saturday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav directed officials to prioritize the resolution of issues pertaining to the PESA Act and to establish a specialized cell to oversee its implementation.
In the meeting, district administrations have been instructed to prepare a detailed presentation regarding the activities under the PESA Act for the upcoming Collector-Commissioner Conference, as stated by the Chief Minister's Office on Saturday.
CM Yadav emphasized the importance of enhancing the living conditions of tribal communities and prioritizing the conservation of forested areas.
He also insisted on ensuring that local residents actively participate in the conservation and management of community forest resources, while expanding activities by involving social organizations.
Madhya Pradesh is a significant producer of tendu leaves, which are commercially utilized in other states. A strategy should be devised to encourage tendu leaf collectors and various related businesses within the state, benefiting the tribal population.
Notably, following the enactment of the PESA Act, the state government is intensifying efforts to implement a broad array of initiatives aimed at transforming the lives of tribals in the state.
The revenue sources for tribal communities in Madhya Pradesh will extend beyond traditional means such as producing mahua liquor, collecting tendu patta, or agriculture, and will include a diverse range of resources for their livelihoods.
The PESA Act was launched in Madhya Pradesh by President Droupadi Murmu during her visit to the state on the anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda's birth on November 15, 2022.
