Mumbai, April 23 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, departed for Srinagar on Wednesday evening to oversee the state government's efforts to rescue tourists stranded following the recent terror incident.

Shinde's visit comes as the state government, under the directive of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has arranged a special flight to return 83 tourists to Mumbai on Thursday.

All costs will be covered by the government. Tragically, six tourists from Maharashtra lost their lives in the terror attack that occurred on Tuesday.

Previously, Shinde's son and Shiv Sena MP, Shrikant Shinde, along with his team, had already headed to Kashmir.

According to Shinde’s office, he has been in contact with the affected tourists in Kashmir following the attack.

“Upon his arrival in Srinagar, Eknath Shinde plans to meet with all the tourists between 10 and 11 PM. His aim is to ensure their safe return to Mumbai. Food services will also be provided for these tourists,” the statement added.

On Tuesday night, Shinde communicated with Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu regarding the unfortunate events in Pahalgam, where tourists from Maharashtra were victims.

He urged the Minister to facilitate the prompt transportation of the deceased's remains from Srinagar to Mumbai.

In response, Naidu confirmed that all necessary steps would be taken, and special provisions would be arranged for the swift return of the bodies.

Additionally, the Maharashtra State Disaster Management Cell at Mantralaya has been activated to assist tourists from Maharashtra and their families stranded across various regions of Kashmir.
