Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 4 (NationPress) In light of the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel, the Maharashtra government has initiated a critical operation aimed at aiding and evacuating Indian tourists and residents stranded in the Gulf region, as stated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a state council meeting on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister revealed that the state is collaborating closely with the Central Government to safeguard its citizens. Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan has been appointed to oversee the rescue missions and ensure immediate support.
He emphasized that a robust support system, diplomatic efforts, and community engagement are in place.
“A WhatsApp helpline has been set up to offer real-time help. Minister Girish Mahajan is in direct contact with stranded individuals through video calls to evaluate their situations. The state administration is working alongside the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassies. Citizens have been provided with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding safety protocols. Local 'Marathi Mandals' and other Indian community groups in the Gulf are mobilized to offer essential support such as food and shelter,” he mentioned.
The chief minister also addressed specific difficulties faced in Kuwait, where transit passengers have encountered visa issues. Measures are being taken to offer them temporary accommodations and necessities.
CM Fadnavis pointed out that although some airspaces are closed, Air India and other commercial airlines are gradually resuming operations wherever it is safe to do so.
“We are focused on ensuring the safe return of our citizens. While some airspaces remain unsafe, we are arranging transport as soon as routes are clear. Our Chief of Protocol is also actively collaborating with embassies to facilitate the process,” he stated.
He praised Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for independently helping in the repatriation of certain citizens, labeling it a commendable effort.
Addressing worries about the possible economic impact, CM Fadnavis assured the public of fuel security, confirming that India possesses a strategic fuel reserve sufficient for two months, indicating that a spike in fuel prices is unlikely despite the volatility in the Middle East.
In closing, CM Fadnavis reiterated the Modi government's proven track record of successful evacuations over the last decade, expressing confidence that every Indian student, tourist, and professional will safely return in the near future.
