Kolkata, Jan 29 (NationPress) In her latest publication, West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directly attributes the BJP's success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to the shortcomings of the Congress. On the inaugural day of the Kolkata International Book Fair, she unveiled three new books, including one titled 'Banglar Nirbachon o Amra (Bengal elections and us)', where she analyzes the 2024 general election results.

In her assessment, despite the Trinamool Congress's dedicated efforts, the opposition INDIA bloc fell short of achieving electoral success largely due to the Congress's failures.

“We genuinely sought a robust opposition coalition against the BJP at the national level, amalgamating all anti-BJP factions. From the onset, we advocated for a common minimum program and a unified manifesto. The name of the opposition coalition was also my suggestion. Congress was offered the leadership position of this national coalition. However, there was neither a unified program nor a shared manifesto. The coalition members ended up contesting against each other, which facilitated the BJP in reclaiming power without securing a majority,” the Chief Minister articulated in her book.

Additionally, she asserts that the Congress's success in the previous Lok Sabha elections was primarily due to support from other allies within the INDIA bloc.

Focusing on the West Bengal election dynamics, she noted that while the Congress had a seat-sharing agreement with the CPI(M)-led Left Front, it essentially operated as a larger anti-Trinamool Congress strategy, covertly collaborating with the BJP.

She claims that the Trinamool Congress's electoral achievements in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections stemmed from genuine public support, inspired by various developmental initiatives undertaken by her administration.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress saw its seats rise to 29 from 22 in 2019, while the BJP saw a drop to 12 from 18. The Congress managed to secure victory in only one seat, and the CPI(M)-led Left Front ended with none.
