Mamata Banerjee Criticizes Union Cabinet for Approving One Nation, One Election Legislation

Kolkata, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, expressed her disapproval on Thursday regarding the Union Cabinet's approval of the One Nation One Election legislation.
Banerjee stated that the Union Cabinet has rushed through this unconstitutional and anti-federal bill.
She has accused the Union government of disregarding all valid concerns raised by experts and opposition figures.
“This is not a well-thought-out reform; rather, it is an authoritarian imposition aimed at weakening India’s democracy and federalism,” the Chief Minister asserted.
She declared that the Trinamool Congress MPs, both in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, will stand against the draconian legislation in Parliament.
“Bengal will never submit to Delhi’s dictatorial tendencies. This struggle is about preserving India’s democracy from the grip of autocracy,” she emphasized.
Earlier this year, while campaigning ahead of the general elections, the Chief Minister claimed that the BJP’s push for ‘One Nation, One Election’ is an attempt to impose “One Nation, One Political Party” in India.
Even the leadership of her main political adversary in West Bengal, the CPI-M, has condemned the One Nation, One Election Bill, suggesting that this reflects the original agenda of the RSS which the current Union government is trying to enact.
In contrast, the West Bengal unit of the BJP has welcomed the Union Cabinet's decision to support the One Nation, One Election Bill.
Former national vice president of the party, Dilip Ghosh, stated that this initiative aims to conserve both time and resources spent on elections. “This is a favorable move for the entire nation,” Ghosh remarked.
