Kolkata, Feb 18 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated in the Assembly on Tuesday that she would resign from her role if the accusations against her and the Trinamool Congress regarding connections to terrorism are substantiated.
"There are claims that I am disregarding the Hindu faith and have associations with the Muslim League. We are also accused of having ties to terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. I must address these allegations. If you can provide evidence for such claims, I will step down as Chief Minister. I will write to the Prime Minister and inquire if he supports these allegations," the Chief Minister declared while responding to the opening speech by Governor C.V. Ananda Bose during the Budget Session of the Assembly on February 10.
Although not directly naming the BJP, CM Banerjee alleged that those spreading these accusations have prior arrangements with the Muslim League during election periods.
"They seek assistance from the Muslim League ahead of elections. The truth will eventually come out, and the public will respond appropriately if they persist with these false claims," she asserted.
During her address, she also criticized the BJP and the Uttar Pradesh government regarding the recent stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
"The Maha Kumbh has become a 'Mrityu Kumbh.' The event was commercialized heavily. Special arrangements were made for VVIPs, while ordinary attendees were overlooked. In West Bengal, we have eliminated the VVIP culture at the Gangasagar Mela. While accidents can occur at major events, effective planning is essential to avert such incidents," the Chief Minister expressed.
While she spoke in the House, the Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who had been suspended for a month on Monday, was addressing the same topic from outside the House, broadcasting live on his social media platform.
The Chief Minister added that under the governance of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, peace has been upheld in the state despite the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh.
"This is a testament to the cooperation of individuals from all faiths in the state. You have instigated tensions at the international borders. However, remember that this state is also an integral part of the nation," CM Banerjee concluded.
