Mamata Urges Party Members to Avoid Provocative Remarks on Bangladesh Situation

Kolkata, Dec 9 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday instructed her party legislators to avoid making any comments regarding the ongoing turmoil in nearby Bangladesh that could potentially escalate tensions within the state.
"The violence against minorities in Bangladesh is truly regrettable. We stand against any form of violence directed at any community worldwide based on religious grounds. Please avoid making any inflammatory remarks about this matter," the Chief Minister stated during the Assembly on the 10th day of the current Winter Session.
While not explicitly naming the BJP, she accused the main opposition party in the state of attempting to leverage the Bangladesh crisis for political advantage.
"One specific political party is distributing misleading videos. Those who believe they can benefit politically from this are mistaken," she asserted.
Banerjee reaffirmed her previous position that her administration and party will support any actions taken by the Union government concerning the Bangladesh situation.
"The Union government will address this issue. Our approach is to adhere to the external affairs policies set by the Union government. Many of us have family in Bangladesh. Therefore, we will back any initiative from the Union government on this matter. I urge the Union government and the Prime Minister to take action," she added.
Furthermore, she emphasized that ordinary individuals from all religions do not support riots. "Riots are instigated by certain anti-social elements," she remarked.
Last week, the Chief Minister appealed for the intervention of the United Nations regarding the crisis in neighboring Bangladesh. She also proposed that the Union government contemplate deploying peacekeeping forces to Bangladesh following UN intervention and requested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address the situation and seek UN involvement.
