Suvendu Adhikari Equates Mamata Banerjee with Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh

Kolkata, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday for her suggestion to deploy UN peace-keeping forces to Bangladesh, stating that Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh and Mamata Banerjee in Bengal are alike.

“The Chief Minister has introduced a motion in the Assembly to send peace-keeping forces to Bangladesh. What was ‘her’ police doing while ‘jihadis’ were ‘hindering’ Hindu religious celebrations throughout the state? Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal are identical,” remarked the LoP during a rally at the Benapole-Petrapole Indo-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas, protesting against the violence inflicted on Hindus in Bangladesh and the detention of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) monks by Bangladeshi authorities last week.

In response to Adhikari’s comparison of Yunus and Banerjee, Kunal Ghosh, a leader of the Trinamool Congress, stated that the LoP is making unfounded claims.

“Instead of staging protests at the Benapole-Petrapole border, state BJP leaders should travel to New Delhi and request the Union government to intervene in Bangladesh. The West Bengal administration cannot meddle in the external affairs of other nations,” Ghosh remarked.

Ghosh also expressed that the Union government’s silence regarding the situation in Bangladesh raises concerns about whether the BJP has ulterior motives to incite Hindus in West Bengal and capitalize on the events occurring in Bangladesh.

Previously, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had called for the United Nations (UN) to become involved in the current crisis in neighboring Bangladesh, suggesting that the Union government consider deploying peace-keeping forces there following UN intervention.

On Monday, protesting workers obstructed the movement of cross-border goods vehicles at the Benapole-Petrapole border for a full 24 hours.

The LoP has warned that if calm is not restored and the assaults on minority Hindus in Bangladesh continue, the blockade of goods traffic will extend for five consecutive days next week.
