Manipur: Additional Militant Arrested in Connection with the Murder of Two Bihar Migrant Workers

Imphal, Dec 17 (NationPress) With the apprehension of one more militant, the total number of individuals arrested in relation to the Saturday murder of two migrant workers from Bihar has increased to eight, as stated by officials on Tuesday.
A police representative disclosed that a prominent member of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) (KCP-PWG), known as Irengbam Rameshwar Singh, aged 48, was taken into custody from the Kakching Lamkhai area in Kakching district on Monday night.
The official mentioned that a police unit, acting on confidential intelligence, had previously arrested seven militants associated with the KCP-PWG group from a hideout in the Kakching Mamang Ching Laipham Loknung area of Kakching.
The apprehended militants have been identified as Elangabm Herojit Singh, 40, Heikrujam Prem, 28, Okram Arundatta, 30, Senjam Rebingson, 27, Okram Amarjit, 31, Aribam Ghanendrajit Sharma, 25, and Chongtham Rajkumar, 26.
A significant cache of arms and ammunition, including eight weapons, was seized from the detainees.
On Saturday evening, armed militants fatally shot the two migrant workers near the panchayat office in Keirak along the Kakching-Wabagai Road while the victims were cycling with a group.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Sunalal Kumar, 18, and Dasharat Kumar, 17.
The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, condemned the killings of the two migrant workers from Bihar and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of each victim.
He indicated that the investigation might be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) if deemed necessary to guarantee a comprehensive and fair inquiry.
Both victims hailed from Rajwahi village in the Gopalganj district of Bihar. They were involved in construction work and resided in rented housing in Kakching.
In the past, migrant workers, particularly from Bihar, have faced violence in Manipur.
The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, expressed his sorrow over the killings and declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased.
