Manipur's Chief Minister Takes Action to Combat Teacher Shortage and Launches New Infrastructure Projects

Imphal, March 1 (NationPress) Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh of Manipur declared on Sunday that the state administration is committed to implementing various measures to tackle the pressing teacher shortage in schools.
While addressing a gathering at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School in the Imphal East district, the Chief Minister pointed out that the institution has faced operational difficulties due to a significant lack of teachers.
He promised that effective actions would be undertaken to alleviate this problem not only within this school but also in other educational institutions encountering similar issues.
During the event at Moirangpurel, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh also inaugurated three significant projects: the Itham Moirangpurel Bridge, a model residential school, and the newly built Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School, with funding from various government initiatives.
Additionally, he initiated the upgrade of a segment of National Highway-2 (Imphal–Dimapur) from Lamlai to Thoubal Dam.
In light of reports concerning alleged illegal activities along the highway in Moirangpurel, reportedly involving certain security personnel, the Chief Minister took the matter seriously. He directed the Imphal East Superintendent of Police, Shivanand Surve, to carry out a comprehensive investigation.
Furthermore, he instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East, Nivedita Lairenlakpam, to provide a report on the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Laikhong village, who have yet to receive Direct Benefit Transfer assistance for purchasing essentials like mattresses due to ethnic violence.
Deputy Commissioner Lairenlakpam confirmed that measures would be taken in collaboration with the Home Department to address these needs promptly.
The Science and Arts Block at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School was developed at an estimated cost exceeding Rs 3.78 crore, funded through Samagra Shiksha Manipur and executed by the Education Engineering Wing. This infrastructure includes modern classrooms, laboratories, a library, separate restrooms for boys and girls, and rainwater harvesting systems.
The Model Residential School was developed under the PMJVK scheme, receiving financial backing from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs at a cost close to Rs 25.62 crore.
Constructed at a sanctioned cost of around Rs 645.84 lakh, the Itham Moirangpurel Bridge spans 2.10 km over the Thoubal River in the Keirao Bitra Block of Imphal East district.
On this occasion, Manipur BJP MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar praised the Chief Minister for his unwavering support and guidance in the development of the Andro Assembly constituency.
Lamlai BJP MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha remarked that since the new state government took office, development initiatives have been advancing rapidly throughout the state.
Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing expressed optimism that the upgrade of the road linking Napet Palli and Ashang Khullen to National Highway status would greatly benefit the community.
