New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) During the 129th episode of the radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Margaret Ramtharsiem, a Churachandpur resident in Manipur, for her commitment to promoting traditional products and handicrafts, which has also created job opportunities for numerous local artisans and villagers.

Her insightful vision for Manipur’s traditional crafts, including bamboo and wooden items, has transformed her from a handicraft artist into a catalyst for change in many lives. Her unit now employs over 50 artisans, and her relentless efforts have opened markets for her creations across various states, including Delhi,” remarked PM Modi.

Margaret Ramtharsiem expressed her enthusiasm to IANS regarding the honor of having her work recognized by the Prime Minister.

IANS: With your work highlighted in Mann Ki Baat, do you see this as part of a vision to promote traditional handicrafts as sustainable livelihoods?

Margaret Ramtharsiem: Absolutely. Our clients, both domestic and international, reflect this vision. The export of our traditional handicrafts is proving that these products can access a global market, generating real economic prospects.

IANS: Your initiatives have turned Manipur's traditional handicrafts into viable livelihoods for over 50 artisans. Has the Prime Minister’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision inspired you to expand and formalize your endeavors?

Margaret Ramtharsiem: Yes, indeed. It has always been my aspiration to achieve self-reliance. The Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative motivates me to work harder, involve more local artisans, and reinforce self-sufficiency in our communities.

IANS: Your products are now available across India. Does this indicate that government policies are effectively connecting artisans with national markets?

Margaret Ramtharsiem: Certainly. Many local artisans who were previously unknown are now gaining visibility at various levels due to government platforms.

IANS: Does being acknowledged by Prime Minister Modi in Mann Ki Baat enhance the confidence of grassroots entrepreneurs and artisans?

Margaret Ramtharsiem: Yes, for me personally, it has significantly boosted my confidence and enthusiasm to expand my work and strive for greater achievements in the future.

IANS: Prime Minister Modi frequently discusses the importance of preserving culture while fostering economic opportunities. Do you believe his leadership is redefining the identity and direction of India’s handicraft sector?

Margaret Ramtharsiem: Absolutely. I am modernizing the traditional handicrafts of our ancestors while preserving our culture and transforming it into a sustainable business.

IANS: In your view, how effective are Prime Minister Modi’s initiatives in reinforcing traditional arts and ensuring sustainable income for artisans?

Margaret Ramtharsiem: His initiatives have ignited my passion for promoting traditional tribal crafts and attire. They allow us to sustain our heritage while generating income—what I define as a sustainable livelihood. Many local artisans are similarly inspired to champion our tribal crafts and heritage.
