Imphal, May 5 (NationPress) The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, convened a meeting on Monday to assess the progress of ongoing National Highway projects within the state, instructing officials to guarantee their timely completion, as reported by officials.
During the meeting held at Raj Bhavan, the Governor meticulously evaluated the status of the various National Highway projects under development across Manipur.
The Executive Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), M.S. Deval, delivered an in-depth overview regarding the ongoing national highway projects located in different regions of Manipur.
He emphasized the significant challenges that are hindering the execution of these projects.
The Governor urged the officials to take the necessary steps to tackle these challenges and to ensure that the projects are completed on schedule,” an official mentioned.
Manipur is served by two major National Highways — Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) and Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2), which are vital for the transportation of food grains, essential goods, medicines, fuels, construction materials, machinery, and an array of other items.
Key attendees at Monday’s meeting included the Principal Secretary of Works, the Commissioner of Home, the Secretary of Land Resource, the Chief Engineer of PWD, and the Deputy Inspector General of Operations from the CRPF.
Moreover, Deputy Commissioners from seven districts — Ukhrul, Noney, Tamenglong, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Pherzwal — participated in the meeting via video conference.
Another official disclosed that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had approved a major development project in Manipur last year, which includes 50 National Highway projects totaling 1,026 km. Notably, 44 of these projects, covering 902 km, are aimed at the hilly districts, showcasing the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in challenging mountainous regions.
As part of this initiative, eight projects covering 125 kilometers have already been completed in the hill districts, according to the official. Currently, 36 projects are in progress, with a considerable budget of Rs 12,000 crore allocated for the remaining 777 km. “These developments are anticipated to enhance connectivity and accessibility, stimulating economic growth and improving the quality of life for the local populace,” the official added.
