Bhubaneswar, July 8 (NationPress) Senior BJP figure Manmohan Samal has been re-elected as the president of Odisha BJP for his second consecutive term on Tuesday. The party's returning officer for the organizational elections in Odisha, Sanjay Jaiswal, officially announced Samal's appointment as the state president.
Samal was the sole candidate to submit a nomination for the party's state president position.
Following his re-election for a fourth term, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated Samal, describing him as a seasoned politician. He emphasized that Samal's leadership has consistently been advantageous for the BJP.
During Samal's tenure as state president, the BJP formed the government in Odisha, either in alliance with the BJD in 2000 and 2004 or independently in 2024.
Samal's political journey, from an ABVP worker to the Odisha BJP chief, was notably highlighted. The Chief Minister also remarked that the organization and government represent two sides of the same coin.
He encouraged party workers and leaders to unite in pursuit of a 'Developed Odisha'.
In his speech, Samal recognized the party workers who contributed to the BJP's government formation in the state.
He remarked that, thanks to the relentless efforts of the workers, the party, once mocked as merely a signboard party in the 1980s, managed to establish a government in 2024.
Samal stated that any ordinary worker has the potential to rise to the top position within the party. He called on party workers to work diligently to honor the commitments made to the people of Odisha.
The central party leadership has expressed trust in Samal for his pivotal role in the BJP's unprecedented ascendance to power in Odisha for the first time since independence in 2024.
Previously, he served as the president of Odisha BJP twice, from 1999 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2004.
Samal was re-elected as state BJP president in March 2023, just ahead of the 2024 general elections.
