Shillong, Sep 30 (NationPress) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma declared on Tuesday that the four National People’s Party (NPP) legislators who were recently removed from the state Cabinet were properly notified about the decision in advance, countering claims that they were caught off guard.
In response to comments made by former Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, who mentioned learning about her removal during a New Delhi event, the Chief Minister clarified that official notifications were sent out prior to the reshuffle.
Sangma further noted that on September 12, at approximately 8 p.m., letters were sent to all four ministers, formally informing them of their removal from the Cabinet. “The letters were dispatched, and each of them acknowledged receipt. I expect that when they receive communication from the Chief Minister, they review it. Thus, the notion that they were not informed is unfounded as the communication was conducted formally,” he explained.
The Chief Minister also addressed suggestions that the Cabinet reshuffle overlooked seasoned leaders, asserting that experience is not the only factor in Cabinet selection. He emphasized the importance of balancing various elements, including regional aspirations, seniority, and representation of younger members.
“My Cabinet is a harmonized team. It comprises both seasoned leaders with decades of public service experience and younger members who introduce new vigor. Both experience and a commitment to the populace are critical,” Sangma articulated. He pointed out that the reshuffle was necessary to accommodate requests from multiple districts.
“There were significant demands from areas such as Ri Bhoi, North Garo Hills, and West Khasi Hills. As Chief Minister, I needed to consider these sentiments while reforming the Cabinet,” he added.
Sangma stressed that such actions are part of political accountability and governance, reiterating that the process was executed transparently and in line with established protocols.
