Meghalaya Government Prioritizes Education in State Budget: Chief Minister

Shillong, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, stated on Tuesday that the state government has made a substantial allocation in the budget aimed at transforming the education sector, with an emphasis on tackling the challenges within this area.

Sangma participated in the Closing Ceremony of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Nativity Higher Secondary School located in Mawkyrwat in the South West Khasi Hills.

He remarked, “The government has concentrated on the education sector with a significant budget allocation. The intricacies of the education system are being examined. Numerous challenges persist, and we must approach them in an organized manner. The government is committed to ensuring that our students have access to higher education opportunities. We have approved the introduction of Science and Commerce streams in government colleges in Sohra, Williamnagar, and Baghmara, which will eventually be extended to community colleges. I am optimistic that with these initiatives, we will witness improvements in the education sector.”

During his address, the Chief Minister also commended the founders, particularly Fr. Aron, the Parish Priest of Nativity Higher Secondary School, along with Brixuis Marwein, who was instrumental in establishing the school on March 15, 1974.

He acknowledged the contributions of past and current governing members, faculty, and staff who have played crucial roles not only in building infrastructure but also in positively impacting the lives of many through the institution.

Sangma further announced a contribution of 25 Lakhs from the Chief Minister's Special Development Fund as a gesture for the school's 50th anniversary.

He informed attendees that the road linking Mawkyrwat and nearby areas from Weiloi will undergo improvements and expansions, funded by approximately Rs 120 crore.

Additionally, the Chief Minister disclosed a sanction of Rs 25 crore for the development of a resort at Nongnah and expressed gratitude to the community for collaborating with the government to enhance tourism infrastructure in the region.

Sangma also honored Brixuis Marwein, the first headmaster of the school, during this significant occasion.
