Srinagar, Sep 26 (NationPress) Following Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's remarks labeling the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk as ‘very unfortunate’ last Friday, former Chief Minister and president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, also voiced her disapproval regarding Wangchuk's arrest.
In a statement on X, Mehbooba Mufti expressed: “The arrest of Sonam Wangchuk is profoundly troubling. A lifelong proponent of peace, sustainability, and truth is facing repercussions simply for insisting that promises are honored.”

Following the Ministry of Home Affairs’ accusations against Sonam Wangchuk for provoking unrest in Leh, the police took him into custody on Friday afternoon.
Sonam Wangchuk had participated in a hunger strike since September 10, advocating for statehood, inclusion in the 6th schedule, and the preservation of Ladakh’s delicate ecosystem.
