Bhubaneswar, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Odisha government has appointed the former State Director General of Police Prakash Mishra as an advisor to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, officials confirmed.
According to the notification released by the Odisha General Administration and Public Grievances Department, Mishra has been granted the rank of Cabinet Minister.
"Prakash Mishra, IPS (retired) is appointed as Advisor to the Chief Minister in the rank of Cabinet Minister," the notification states.
Following his appointment, Mishra conveyed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for assigning him such a significant role.
"I aspire to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to me effectively and address the issues faced by the people of Odisha," he remarked.
He further mentioned that his main concentration would be on the efficient operation of the newly formed BJP-led government, focusing on the citizens' needs.
The 1977 Odisha cadre IPS officer has previously held positions as the Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Mishra served as the DG of Odisha Police from 2012 until 2014.
He was subsequently dismissed as the Odisha Police Chief in July 2014, and a vigilance case was filed against him in September 2014.
However, the Orissa High Court dismissed the allegations against Mishra in June 2015.
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party prior to the general elections in 2019.
Mishra contested from the Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency but lost to the BJD candidate Bhartruhari Mahtab.
Mishra is recognized as a staunch critic of former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik.
In another noteworthy appointment, the Governor of Odisha, Hari Babu Kambhampati, also designated retired 1999-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Madhusudan Padhi as the State Election Commissioner on Monday.
The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department issued a notification pertaining to this appointment on Monday.
"In accordance with clause (1) of Article 243-K of the Constitution, the Governor of Odisha is pleased to appoint Madhusudan Padhi, IAS (Retd.) as State Election Commissioner, Odisha," the notification affirmed.
