Aizawl, March 25 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, announced on Tuesday that India is gearing up to host the 2036 Olympics. In line with this vision, Mizoram has launched the 'Vision 2036' initiative aimed at cultivating young Mizo athletes who aspire to represent India on the Olympic stage.
While inaugurating the newly built Mizoram Badminton Centre at Zuangtui in Aizawl, the Chief Minister highlighted that many of the world’s elite badminton players hail from Asia, positioning India as a nation with remarkable badminton talent.
He pointed out that young Mizo athletes are making their mark at the national level, suggesting they have a solid opportunity to achieve international success.
The impressive performance of Mizo youth in national age-group competitions showcases this potential, the Chief Minister remarked, expressing joy that the establishment of this badminton centre would facilitate enhanced training for aspiring players.
Lalduhoma indicated that badminton is a sport where the Mizo people naturally excel.
The Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) program is being introduced to scout and nurture young sports talent, the Chief Minister stated.
He assured that the government is dedicated to supporting athletes and is actively working to improve sports infrastructure.
The Chief Minister extended his thanks to former Chief Minister Zoramthanga and current Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia for their foundational efforts in this initiative.
State Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister, K. Sapdanga, also expressed gratitude to previous administrations and the Mizoram Badminton Association for their contributions to the centre's establishment.
He reiterated that this cutting-edge facility, developed with significant government investment, will act as a launchpad for talented athletes aiming to bring pride to both Mizoram and India.
State Sports and Youth Services Minister, Lalnghinglova Hmar, mentioned his visit to Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad and discussions with Pullela Gopichand.
He expressed hope that the introduction of such an exceptional facility would propel Mizoram further in the sports arena.
He reaffirmed that the Mizoram Badminton Association will manage the badminton centre, which is set to become a hub for training future Olympians in alignment with 'Vision 2036'.
The Mizoram Badminton Centre was constructed under the Aizawl Smart City Limited project, costing a total of Rs 18.21 crore. The construction commenced in June 2022 and concluded in March 2025.
