Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday, 9 June 2025, held a press conference in Bhubaneswar to mark the completion of 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led Union government — including two years of its third term — crediting the 'double-engine government' model for accelerating development across the state.

A 'Historic Day' in India's Democratic Journey

Chief Minister Majhi described 9 June as a 'historic day in India's democratic journey', noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to become the longest-serving democratically elected head of government in the country, with 4,399 days in office. On behalf of the 4.5 crore people of Odisha, Majhi extended congratulations and good wishes to the Prime Minister.

He credited Modi's leadership for steering India through the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ukraine conflict, and ongoing geopolitical turbulence — while, he claimed, sustaining strong economic momentum. India has emerged as the world's fastest-growing major economy, he asserted, recording a growth rate of 7.7 per cent in Financial Year 2025-26 despite global supply-chain disruptions linked to the conflict in West Asia.

Infrastructure Push: Rail, Roads, and Ports

On the infrastructure front, Majhi highlighted a record railway budget allocation of ₹10,928 crore for Odisha in the current financial year, with ongoing railway projects valued at ₹90,000 crore. He noted that 59 stations are being modernised under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and that the state has achieved 100 per cent railway electrification.

Major maritime and port projects were also cited, including a satellite port at Bahuda, a mega shipbuilding cluster in Kendrapara, and the development of National Waterway-5. National highway projects worth ₹80,000 crore, a proposed Capital Region Ring Road, a Greenfield Coastal Highway, and investments in regional airports — including a proposed international airport at Puri — were among the other infrastructure milestones highlighted.

Agriculture, Rural Welfare, and MSME Support

Chief Minister Majhi said more than 34.59 lakh farmers in Odisha are currently benefiting under the PM-KISAN scheme, while millet production and palm oil cultivation have expanded significantly. He also pointed to support measures for fishermen, women's empowerment programmes such as Lakhpati Didi, collateral-free loans for MSMEs, and benefits extended under PM Vishwakarma.

Health, Education, and Fiscal Performance

Majhi claimed that Odisha has emerged as the top-performing state in NITI Aayog's Fiscal Health Index. He cited implementation of the Ayushman Bharat-Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana, the addition of new nursing and medical colleges, and welfare coverage for tribal communities and senior citizens as evidence of the state's social sector progress.

Calling Modi a 'Vikash Purush' (Man of Development), Majhi also highlighted national achievements in renewable energy, semiconductor development, digital infrastructure, and national security — framing India's growing self-reliance and its role in the Vaccine Maitri initiative as evidence of the country's standing as a 'Vishwabandhu' (Friend of the World).

Odisha's Road to 2036

Reaffirming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government's commitment to the state, Majhi said Odisha is working towards becoming a prosperous and self-reliant state by 2036, in alignment with Prime Minister Modi's broader vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047. With central allocations at record levels and flagship schemes deepening their reach, the coming months will test whether on-ground delivery matches the scale of the announcements.
