New Delhi, Nov 20 (NationPress) The selection of former Chilean President and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, by the Congress party for the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development 2024, has faced significant public backlash and condemnation from various factions.
In a post shared on the social media platform ‘X’, Akhilesh Mishra, CEO of BlueKraft Digital Foundation, has connected this incident to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks branding Congress as “MMC” – Muslim League Maoist Congress. Mishra refers to the Prime Minister’s sharp criticism of Congress following its dismal performance in Bihar, delivered while addressing BJP workers in Delhi on November 14.
His post highlights a perceived link between the selection of the former Chilean President as an award recipient and the individual who led the jury that made this choice.
Mishra states, “Examine closely and you’ll discover that anyone who still supports Congress is either an Islamist or a Marxist,” further asserting, “If you believe they wouldn’t jeopardize India to fulfill their ambitions, just read this report.”
He includes a 2013 media article regarding IPS officer Asif Ibrahim’s revelations about the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case, implicating Shivshankar Menon, the former National Security Advisor under the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), as the architect behind the decisions made.
Mishra questions, “What political advantage does Congress gain from honoring former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet? None, correct?” adding, “Yet, Congress proceeded with this move.”
He continues, “Who was the jury head that selected her?” answering his own question with, “Former NSA under Manmohan Singh, @ShivshankaMenon.”
He also lists various issues and occurrences that allegedly transpired during Menon’s time, insinuating his ties to individuals endorsing leftist ideologies.
Mishra notes, “It was during his tenure that the ‘Aman ki Asha’ initiative began,” which was established in early 2010 by two major media outlets from India and Pakistan, aimed at fostering peace and facilitating track two diplomacy.
Furthermore, he states, “It was in his tenure that Maoists killed 76 CRPF personnel,” referencing the April 2010 Dantewada insurgent attack.
He also highlights that it was during “Menon’s period that the Kashmir interlocutors group, composed of declared Marxists, was formed, advocating for increased separatism.”
Additionally, he criticizes Menon’s tenure for “defanging” the Salwa Judum, a group of local tribal youths supported by the Chhattisgarh government, who were engaged in combating Naxalite threats.
LeT affiliated terrorist - Ishrat Jahan - was positioned to become a national icon,” and “It was under Menon that an IB officer, who eliminated terrorists, faced persecution to the brink of imprisonment, before the entire IB revolted.”
