New Delhi, Sep 18 (NationPress) India’s premier producer of manganese ore, MOIL, announced a remarkable achievement in the realm of exports as it successfully dispatched its inaugural shipment of 54,600 tonnes of manganese ore fines from Visakhapatnam to Indonesia as a designated state trading enterprise (STE).
The Indian government has appointed MOIL as a STE for the export of manganese (Mn) ore containing less than 46% Mn grade.
According to the Steel Ministry, MOIL has established a framework for the fiscal year 2024-2025 to facilitate the export of Mn ore in compliance with the Trade Policy, mandating that all exports of Mn ore from India must be funneled through MOIL.
“The inaugural consignment of 54,600 tonnes Mn ore from Vizag was dispatched on August 22, 2025 to Indonesia under the auspices of MOIL. The material is exported to international clients through a back-to-back arrangement with domestic suppliers,” stated the ministry.
The export of low-grade manganese ore (Mn 25%) holds significant importance as India possesses an excess of low-grade Mn ore fines that surpass domestic requirements, thereby enhancing India's global presence and increasing foreign revenue.
Ajit Kumar Saxena, CMD, expressed his congratulations to the MOIL team for their first-ever manganese ore export as a State Trading Enterprise and highlighted the need for efficient operations and informed strategies to promote international trade.
In August, MOIL achieved its highest production figures to date, reaching 1.45 lakh tonnes, marking an impressive 17% growth compared to the same month the previous year.
On the sales front, the company reported 1.13 lakh tonnes of sales in August, reflecting a substantial 25.6% year-on-year increase.
Moreover, from April to August 2025, MOIL recorded its best performance ever with 7.92 lakh tonnes of production, representing a 9.3% year-on-year rise.
The government-owned enterprise, which supplies manganese ore as a crucial input for steel production, also accomplished its highest exploratory core drilling of 50,621 metres during April-August of the current fiscal year, which is an 8.6% increase from the same period last year.
