Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Feb 14 (NationPress) - In a bid to protect the residents living near the international border from potential cross-border firing incidents, the District Magistrate of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district has enforced movement restrictions extending five kilometers from the border. An official directive issued by Rajesh Sharma, District Magistrate of Kathua, stated on Saturday, “Given the sensitive security situation in border regions and the imminent threat of cross-border firing, it is essential to impose restrictions on movement to ensure the safety of local residents and avert any anti-national activities.”
Sharma further explained the necessity of these measures, emphasizing, “I believe there are substantial grounds for action under section 163 BNSS to promptly prevent threats to human life and maintain public peace, making it crucial to limit unnecessary movement in these areas.”
Accordingly, Rajesh Sharma, JKAS, in exercising the powers granted under Section 163 BNSS, has mandated restrictions on unnecessary movement within a five-kilometer strip from the International Border, specifically from BOP (Border Outpost) Paharpur to BOP (Border Outpost) Karol Krishna. Additionally, the operation of heavy vehicles, including trucks, tippers, and multi-axle vehicles, is banned on the old Samba-Kathua road from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
This order will take effect immediately and will remain in place for sixty days or until rescinded, whichever comes first.
“As it is not feasible to provide prior notice for this order, it is being issued ex parte and is addressed to the general public. Any infringement of this order will result in punitive measures under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” the directive indicated.
It is noteworthy that during periods of tension along the international border in J&K, restrictions are routinely enforced in proximity to the border to shield civilians from the dangers of shelling and firing from Pakistan.
