MP Assembly's Winter Session Commences with Congress Protest

Bhopal, Dec 16 (NationPress) The winter session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly officially commenced after an all-party meeting presided over by Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar on Monday.
Among the attendees were Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, and several senior ministers, who were present at the all-party gathering within the Assembly premises.
Outside the Assembly, the opposition Congress party organized a protest to challenge the ruling BJP and bring attention to public issues right on the first day of the five-day winter session.
The main demonstration took place at Roshanpura Chowk, with plans to march towards the state Assembly, located approximately 5 km from the site. A large stage for the protest was constructed late into the night.
Significant security measures were implemented, with barricades set up on the city's roads leading to the state Assembly to prevent the protesters from moving forward.
Leader of Opposition (LoP), Umang Singhar, along with various Congress MLAs, managed to breach the police barricade placed on the road leading to the Assembly near the Vyapam office. Despite security personnel attempting to halt them, they successfully jumped over the barricades.
"The BJP government has not fulfilled the promises made to the citizens, which is why the Congress, as the Opposition, chose to stage a peaceful protest. Nonetheless, Congress leaders and workers are being obstructed from reaching the protest location," Singhar stated.
On the inaugural day of the winter session, three newly elected MLAs from the recent bypolls will take their oaths as members of the state's Assembly. Among them, two belong to the ruling BJP - Kamlesh Shah (Amarwara), Ramakant Bhargava (Budhni), and one Congress MLA from Vijaypur Assembly seat, Mukesh Malhotra.
The session aims to tackle a wide range of concerns, as evidenced by the 1,766 questions submitted by MLAs. The government's agenda will cover economic challenges, while the Congress continues its call for a caste-based census.
This five-day session is set to continue until December 20.
