Bhopal, April 15 (NationPress) In a move to enhance the reach of milk producers to additional primary cooperative societies (PACs) - targeting at least 50 percent of the state - the government has announced an incentive of Rs 5 per litre for milk producers on Tuesday.

“The Chief Minister has also emphasized the promotion of the ‘Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana’ and the extensive marketing of milk produced within the state,” stated an official.

During a program held in Bhopal on Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah noted that despite a substantial production of milk in Madhya Pradesh, it is only reaching around 7,000 active cooperatives.

He recommended that the state government seek guidance from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

Madhya Pradesh has formed an agreement with NDDB to boost milk production from the current 9 percent of the nation's total to 20 percent over the next few years.

Currently, the milk cooperatives in Madhya Pradesh collect only 10 lakh litres of milk daily.

While chairing a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister directed efforts to swiftly support milk producers to enhance production in the state.

Although the Home Minister praised the state's commitment in signing a deal with NDDB to improve the performance of milk cooperatives, he highlighted that merely 17 percent of villages in Madhya Pradesh have milk cooperatives, while marketable milk totals 3.3 crore litres.

Of this amount, only 2.5 percent is processed through milk cooperatives. Under the new agreement, NDDB will take charge of procuring milk and managing the processing of related dairy products.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also urged the state government to focus on reviving “defunct cooperatives” and diversifying activities within milk processing.
