Mumbai, Feb 28 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has declared a 50% discount on accommodation expenses at its facilities throughout the state from March 1 to 8, celebrating International Women's Day.
Numerous tourism initiatives will also be introduced under this program. This endeavor is part of the "Aai" Women-Centric/Gender-Inclusive Tourism Policy, as stated by state Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai on Friday.
Minister Desai mentioned, "MTDC has enacted the 'Aai' women-centric tourism policy to enhance safety, convenience, and memorable experiences for women travelers. In 2024, this special Women's Day discount garnered an excellent response, benefiting over 1,500 women tourists. Due to this positive feedback, the scheme will be extended into 2025 as well."
Women tourists can take advantage of the discounts by reserving their stays via www.mtdc.co. The 50% discount will be available not only from March 1 to 8 but also on 22 other selected days throughout the year, amounting to a total of 30 days of benefits. The specific dates for these additional days will be published on MTDC's website.
MTDC will also offer stall facilities for women’s self-help groups at tourist sites. In addition, heritage walks, adventure tourism, educational tours, and tourism guidance training will be organized, providing chances for women guides and water tourism trainers. Special games and entertainment activities will also be arranged for women.
Minister of State for Tourism Indranil Naik highlighted the government's initiatives to boost women's participation in the tourism sector.
He noted that MTDC manages women-operated tourist accommodations in Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Kharghar (Navi Mumbai). These properties are entirely overseen by women, who manage resort operations, security, taxi services, housekeeping, and hospitality. This initiative has created job opportunities for women in the tourism sector.
Tourism Department principal secretary Atul Patne remarked, "Fostering a safe and inclusive tourism environment for women travelers is a fundamental aim of MTDC. The 'Aai' policy will present more opportunities and encouragement for women tourists."
MTDC Managing Director Manojkumar Suryawanshi added, "As March 8 is a holiday, many women tourists are anticipated to travel. This initiative will provide a fantastic opportunity for them."
