Mumbai, July 8 (NationPress) The redevelopment of buildings situated in the funnel zone of the Mumbai airport, which have faced delays for several years, is set to commence shortly, announced Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a session in the state assembly on Tuesday. His comments came in response to a motion raised by BJP legislator Amit Satam.
Due to flight limitations within the funnel zone and a variety of technical challenges, the redevelopment of numerous structures in this area has been put on hold.
Shinde, who oversees the Urban Development and Housing departments, stated, “The High Frequency Communication System managed by the Airports Authority of India is currently functional in Andheri (West) and Dahisar (East). Because of the height restrictions for buildings in these locations, redevelopment projects have faced significant challenges. Considering this, the state government has consistently liaised with the Central Government to relocate the radar system. The Chief Minister has formally requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation, via letter, to lift these restrictions and facilitate redevelopment.”
He further affirmed, “The barriers hindering the redevelopment of buildings in the funnel zone will be resolved, and the redevelopment process will be initiated soon. The State Government has made positive decisions concerning transferable development rights and concessions in premium rates for this purpose.”
In other news, Atul Save from the dairy development department informed the state assembly that the CBI is currently investigating a fraud case linked to the provident fund of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Milk Federation, and strict measures will be enforced against those responsible. This was in response to a query from NCP legislator Chetan Tupe.
Minister Save reported that allegations have surfaced regarding a senior social security officer and two staff members who allegedly misappropriated funds in collusion with officials from the relevant department.
“This case pertains to the Provident Fund Office under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. Consequently, an FIR was lodged with the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation, Mumbai, on March 18, 2025,” he added.
