Municipal Corporation of Gurugram to Target 300,000 Unauthorized Constructions

Gurugram, Dec 3 (NationPress) The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is set to take decisive measures against 300,000 unauthorized buildings currently being constructed within residential districts.
In addition to imposing fines, the civic authority plans to carry out a demolition drive targeting these violators.
To facilitate this, the MCG has enacted the Haryana Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2021. As per this legislation, owners of illegally constructed buildings will receive a notice mandating the demolition of their property, with the notice also attached to the property ID.
Individuals found guilty of illegal construction will be required to pay three times the regular property tax to the MCG.
Over 300,000 buildings have reportedly been constructed without an approved building plan within MCG jurisdiction. Currently, construction activities for more than 1,500 illegal buildings are ongoing within the city.
This increased property tax will be enforced until the building owner either demolishes the structure or complies with the prescribed regulations.
The Joint Commissioner of Zone-1 at MCG has already issued notices to over 300 individuals involved in illegal constructions under the newly implemented rule. In addition to notifying the owners, a copy of the notice has been forwarded to the regional taxation officer. Consequently, the tax department will impose a tripled property tax on the affected property IDs.
"Building owners who have engaged in illegal construction will now be mandated to pay three times the property tax to the corporation as stipulated by the new act. This tax will remain applicable until the owner either demolishes the building or reverts the use of the residential property back to its intended residential purpose. The process of issuing notices has commenced in this regard," stated Pradeep Kumar, Joint Commissioner-1 of MCG, Gurugram.
