New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) The anticipated discussion regarding the proposed renaming of the Mustafabad Assembly constituency, along with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit findings concerning the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), is set to take place in the Delhi Assembly today.
On March 24, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the CAG report on DTC, drawing attention to operational shortcomings and financial deficits, which have sparked criticism towards the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration.
This report assesses critical operational and financial parameters of DTC, identifying inefficiencies and pinpointing areas that require enhancement. It scrutinizes aspects such as fleet management, revenue generation, operational viability, and compliance with public transport regulations.
Additionally, the Assembly will deliberate on a resolution proposed by BJP MLA and Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht to rename the Mustafabad Assembly constituency to Shiv Vihar Assembly constituency, reflecting the sentiments of the voters in the area, as reported by the Line of Business.
Prior to his election as Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly on February 27, Mohan Singh Bisht, who has served as an MLA six times, had advocated for the renaming of the Mustafabad constituency to either Shiv Vihar or Shiv Puri.
This constituency has a considerable Muslim demographic within the national capital.
Despite this, the BJP leader defended his proposal by asserting, without evidence, that a majority of the constituency's population belongs to the Hindu community.
The 67-year-old BJP leader won his sixth Assembly term by defeating AAP's Adeel Ahmad Khan in Mustafabad by a margin of 17,578 votes.
In another matter, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha is set to introduce a resolution regarding the implementation of free gas cylinder distribution by the Delhi government during special occasions, as noted in the business agenda.
Previously, the Delhi Assembly, under the leadership of BJP MLA Abhay Verma, approved a motion aimed at resolving long-standing issues referred to the Committee on Privileges, Committee on Petitions, and Committee on Questions and References from the Sixth and Seventh Legislative Assemblies.
Furthermore, March 28 has been designated for private members' business, allowing legislators to propose and debate resolutions and bills.
On Thursday, the Delhi Assembly, through a voice vote, annulled all unresolved committee matters against Delhi government officials initiated by the sixth and seventh Assemblies, exercising the authority of the Privileges and Petitions Committees on various issues, including legislative privileges.
