New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu praised the Indian Army for its crucial role in safeguarding national security and promoting peace during the 77th Army Day celebrations.
The President emphasized the Army's essential contributions to the country's development and prosperity, asserting that their efforts have fostered a secure and serene environment.
Army Day, celebrated every year on January 15, marks the establishment of the Indian Army and represents India’s military autonomy. It honors the significant event in 1949 when General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Army Chief of India, transferred command to Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa, who became the inaugural Indian Chief Commander of the Legion of Merit.
The theme for this year’s 77th Army Day festivities is “Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena.”
In her statement, the President sent warm wishes to the Army, recognizing its bravery and professionalism in securing India’s borders.
“The valiant army personnel have constantly exhibited remarkable bravery and superior professionalism in safeguarding our borders. The Indian Army has engaged in anti-terrorism operations and played a crucial role in combating terrorism,” the statement articulated.
“A grateful nation honors the bravehearts who laid down their lives for the country. We owe a debt of gratitude to them and their families. He sent heartfelt greetings to all soldiers, officers, and their families, mentioning that Army Day serves as a platform to celebrate their vital contributions to national security and integrity.
The Defence Minister pointed out the Army’s unmatched role in “securing the borders of the nation while also contributing significantly in disaster management, peacekeeping, and humanitarian assistance.”
He characterized the Indian Army as “a source of pride and confidence for every Indian.”
Rajnath Singh highlighted the Army’s significance as one of the fundamental pillars of national security and its unparalleled role in nation-building. He expressed satisfaction with the Army’s readiness to tackle all kinds of threats, “whether conventional or unconventional,” and its essential contribution to India’s evolution into a Viksit Bharat.
