Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 21 (NationPress) The three-day National Conclave focused on ‘SHG-led Natural Farming: Making of Lakhpati Didis’, spearheaded by the Union Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) in collaboration with the Karnataka Department of Livelihood and Entrepreneurship, commenced in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
During the National Conference on Natural Farming, Sharan Prakash R. Patil, Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Livelihood, and Entrepreneurship, highlighted the rising influence of women in various sectors, particularly in natural farming.
“The Karnataka government prioritizes livelihood creation, especially for women, and has introduced dedicated schemes to foster natural farming as a sustainable income avenue,” he remarked.
“In Karnataka, women are pivotal to this transformation, achieving notable success in embracing and advocating for natural farming techniques,” Patil stated.
He emphasized that under the Karnataka State Rural Livelihoods Mission (SRLM) – Sanjeevini, women self-help groups (SHGs) are engaged in chemical-free, low-cost natural farming. Many members function as Krushi Sakhis and community resource facilitators while managing vital businesses in bio-input production and value addition.
Patil pointed out that natural farming has resulted in skilled and dignified rural employment opportunities for women, with around 5.26 lakh SHG members trained in soil health management, climate-resilient cropping practices, processing, branding, and establishing market connections.
Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy assured that several initiatives have already been put into action by the Agriculture Department, pledging further targeted measures to enhance natural farming.
The state government is committed to providing significant financial aid to the agricultural sector, specifically aimed at empowering farmers, particularly women, by extending necessary facilities and benefits, he stated.
T.K. Anil Kumar, Additional Secretary at MoRD, stressed the importance of governments and agencies fostering deeper collaboration to refine systems, align incentives, and empower women’s institutions to facilitate implementation.
He called upon State Missions to delineate how farming fits into the DAY-NRLM livelihood strategy, its contribution to achieving Lakhpati Didi objectives, and the convergence support required.
