Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's panel meets in Jaipur to reform legislative committees
A high-level Committee of Presiding Officers, constituted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, convened its second meeting in Jaipur on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, to review and strengthen the committee system of legislative bodies across India. The gathering, held at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan, brought together seven Presiding Officers representing assemblies from across the country.
Who Attended and What Was Discussed
The committee comprises Speakers of the Legislative Assemblies of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, and West Bengal. Discussions centred on enhancing the effectiveness of legislative committees and ensuring greater participation of elected representatives. Notably, West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee did not attend this meeting.
