Amaravati, March 4 (NationPress) The governing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh has successfully secured a Legislative Council seat from the Krishna-Guntur graduates' constituency, while its supported candidate is currently ahead in the East-West Godavari graduates' constituency.
On Tuesday, senior leader Alapati Rajendra Prasad from the Telugu Desam Party was officially elected from the Krishna-Guntur graduates' constituency, while P. Rajashekaram was leading in the other constituency.
Previously, Gade Srinivasulu Naidu from the Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union (PRTU) was announced the victor from the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh teachers' constituency.
The elections for three MLC seats took place on February 27, with vote counting commencing on Monday.
Rajendra Prasad achieved victory in the Krishna-Guntur graduates' seat with a majority of 82,320 votes, outpacing his closest competitor K. S. Lakshmana Rao from the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF).
Rajendra Prasad, a former MLA from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) who received support from its allies Jana Sena and BJP, garnered 145,057 votes, while Lakshmana Rao obtained 62,737 votes at the conclusion of the ninth and final vote counting round on Tuesday.
Out of 347,116 votes in the constituency, 241,500 voters participated in the election held on February 27, with over 25,000 votes declared invalid. This number was the third-highest after those for the winner and the runner-up.
A total of 25 candidates contested in this constituency, but the primary competition was between Rajendra Prasad and Lakshmana Rao.
Meanwhile, NDA-supported P. Rajashekaram is currently leading in the East-West Godavari graduates' constituency with a majority of 60,677 votes after the sixth counting round, ahead of his nearest challenger Veera Raghavulu of PDF. Two additional rounds of counting remain.
A total of 35 candidates competed in the East-West Godavari graduates’ constituency. Of the 314,984 graduates eligible to vote, 218,902 exercised their right. By the end of the sixth round, 168,000 votes had been tallied, with 14,818 votes marked as invalid.
Earlier, Gade Srinivasulu Naidu from the Progressive Recognised Teachers’ Union (PRTU) was elected to the Council from the Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam teachers’ constituency.
He triumphed over his closest competitor Pakalapati Raghu Varma of the Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation (APTF), who was backed by the ruling NDA.
Srinivasulu Naidu secured 12,035 votes, while his nearest rival achieved 8,527 votes.
This victory marks Naidu's third consecutive win, having previously been elected in 2007 and 2014.
