Nearly 98.5% of Land Records Digitized Under Central Initiative: Rural Development Minister

New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) Almost 98.50 percent of the existing land records (record of rights) have been digitized in the country under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP), the Parliament was informed on Tuesday.

In a response given in the Lok Sabha, Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that the Government has been executing a comprehensive initiative for the digitization and computerization of land records and registration processes under DILRMP, with 100 percent financial support from the Central Government since 2016-17.

The Minister remarked, "The aim of this scheme is to expedite and complete the modernization and digitization of land records, ensuring that rural land records are accurate, current, and seamlessly integrated with various Government Schemes and the Banking Sector."

Pointing out regions with slower progress, he mentioned, "Some areas in the northeastern states lack land records compared to other states due to community ownership, and the Union Territory of Ladakh has initiated digitization in recent years."

Expanding on the efforts made by the Government to achieve 100 percent digitization of land records across all States and UTs, the Minister indicated, "The Department is consistently monitoring the implementation of DILRMP with relevant officials from States/UTs through regular video conferences, review meetings, regional review meetings, and field visits by senior officers of the Department."

He added that the Department of Expenditure had circulated Scheme Guidelines on the 'Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2024-25' on August 9, 2024.

In response to a different query from Ummeda Ram Beniwal, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Chouhan disclosed that the Government has approved the establishment of a Regional Station of ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research in Barmer district of Rajasthan.

The Rajasthan government has allocated 98.8 acres of land at Gudamalani, district Barmer. A total budget of Rs 8.50 crore has been earmarked during the 15th Finance Commission period for setting up this regional center, of which Rs 2.5 crore has already been utilized for infrastructure development, equipment, and farm implements.
