New Delhi, July 28 (NationPress) - In an effort to promote a comprehensive reading culture for students in the Dwarka sub-city, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena officially opened an 'Aarambh Library' in Dwarka on Monday, offering a supportive environment for just Rs 1,000 a month.
This library, which can seat 65 students, was inaugurated on the first anniversary of a tragic event in July 2024, where three civil services aspirants lost their lives due to flooding in basement reading rooms in Rajinder Nagar.
Speaking to reporters, Saxena remarked: “Following that tragic incident, I committed to ensuring affordable and quality facilities for students so they can pursue their careers in the Capital without facing such dangers. This initiative is a stride towards that goal.”
Located at Sector 16-B, the Dwarka library-cum-reading room is the third Aarambh Library launched since January. The Aarambh initiative is set to grow, with additional libraries planned in Vikaspuri and Rohini.
“These two libraries are scheduled for inauguration within the next 20 days,” Saxena stated, noting that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi was deeply affected by the unfortunate incident in Old Rajender Nagar last July.
“PM Modi had emphasized the need for quality reading room facilities throughout the city,” he mentioned, adding that the goal is to establish a total of 10 libraries under this initiative.
Saxena explained that the Delhi Development Authority is transforming underutilized community centers into vibrant libraries.
The Dwarka library represents the third modern library-cum-reading room in the 'Aarambh' series, following the first library's inauguration at Old Rajinder Nagar on January 5, 2025, and the recent launch of the second library at Adhchini Village on July 10, 2025.
Open 24/7, this library is equipped with contemporary amenities, accommodating around 200 students across three 8-hour shifts, at a modest monthly fee of Rs 1,000 per shift.
Additionally, it offers a student-friendly environment featuring seamless Wi-Fi, secure lockers, CCTV surveillance, a cafeteria, outdoor seating, an open gymnasium, and a running track.
