NIA Detains Key Suspect in PFI Phulwarisharif Case at IGI Airport

New Delhi, Jan 5 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken into custody Mohammad Sajjad Alam, a crucial suspect in the Popular Front of India (PFI) Phulwarisharif case, directly from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport as he returned from Dubai.

Alam, who hails from East Champaran district in Bihar, was apprehended by an NIA unit right after he got off his flight on Saturday.

The NIA Special Court in Patna had previously issued an arrest warrant for Alam, who is identified as a trained member of the outlawed PFI. A Look Out Circular had also been circulated to ensure he could not evade capture.

Investigations by the NIA indicate that Alam played a role in funneling illegal funds from Dubai to PFI associates in Bihar. This illicit money transfer was allegedly facilitated through a syndicate operating out of the UAE, Karnataka, and Kerala.

These funds were purportedly utilized to back the PFI's unlawful and criminal endeavors in India.

This arrest signifies a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation into the Phulwarisharif case, where the NIA has been scrutinizing purported conspiracies and financial systems linked to the banned organization's activities across Bihar and beyond.

The case, which was first reported by Phulwarisharif Police in July 2022, involves PFI members engaged in illegal and anti-national actions.

The inquiry revealed that members of the PFI had plotted to foster an environment of fear and sow discord among various communities. Their efforts, aimed at disturbing public peace and inciting discontent against India, were allegedly geared toward promoting the PFI's ideological vision of establishing Islamic governance in the country.

The NIA's investigation uncovered a document titled 'India 2047: Towards Rule of Islam in India, Internal Document: Not for Circulation'. This document allegedly detailed the PFI's strategy to achieve its ideological aspirations through actions harmful to national peace and unity.

Investigators assert that these actions included employing criminal force to propagate the PFI ideology.

The NIA assumed control of the investigation shortly after the case was registered in 2022.

To date, 17 individuals have been arrested and charged in relation to the case, including key players believed to be involved in facilitating illegal funding and devising plans to advance the PFI's goals.

Alam's arrest marks another significant advancement in the ongoing investigation. The NIA persists in its mission to dismantle the network and activities of the banned organization within India.
