Srinagar, Aug 6 (NationPress) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed a raid on the residence of an arrested overground worker (OGW) affiliated with terrorists in the city of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday.
According to officials, the NIA team targeted a property located in Rustum Colony of Ikhrajpora, near Jawahar Nagar, as part of an ongoing investigation into a terror-related case.
“The NIA team, supported by local police and the CRPF, conducted the operation at the home of Hashim Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmad Mir, who is currently incarcerated in Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu under the Public Safety Act (PSA)
In the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack in Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, which was orchestrated by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists and resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including 25 tourists and a local, the Army, security forces, and J&K Police have intensified their anti-terror operations in the region.
All three Pakistani LeT terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack, including their commander, Suleman Shah, Abu Hamza, and Jibran Bhai, were neutralized by joint forces on July 28 at the base of Mahadev mountain in the higher reaches of Dachigam national park in Srinagar.
The operation to eliminate the attackers was dubbed ‘Operation Mahadev’ by the Army.
The NIA investigates high-profile terror-related crimes such as the targeted killings of pilgrims, security personnel, policemen, non-locals, and hawala money rackets, while the responsibility for on-ground anti-terror operations lies with the deployed Army, CAPFs, and local police.
J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has been holding regular security review meetings, where he has consistently emphasized the need to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem, including terrorists, their OGWs, and sympathizers, rather than solely focusing on the physical elimination of armed terrorists.
During these meetings, L-G Manoj Sinha has reiterated that funds generated from drug smuggling and hawala operations are ultimately funneled into sustaining terrorism in J&K, contributing to the ongoing cycle of violence that has plagued peace, progress, and development for the past 30 years.
