Mumbai, Jan 19 (NationPress) Following the arrest of Bangladeshi national Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad in relation to the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, BJP leader Kirti Somaiya stated that he visited the labour camp in Kavesar, where the suspect resided for three months, and discovered that nine Bangladeshis were living there without proper documentation.

Somaiya further urged the Police Commissioner to initiate a combing operation in the vicinity.

In a post shared on the social media platform X, Somaiya remarked, "I interacted with 12 workers, among them nine were Bangladeshi Muslims (Imman Husein, Amir Sohel....). They claimed to be from Malda but lacked any authentic documents. I have spoken to the Police Commissioner about a combing operation."

Previously, DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam reported, "On January 16, at 2 a.m., actor Saif Ali Khan was assaulted at his residence. An FIR was filed, and one suspect has been apprehended. His name is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, aged 30. He entered the property with the intent to commit robbery. Ongoing investigations are underway."

According to Gedam, the suspect is believed to be from Bangladesh and does not possess valid Indian documentation.

He also mentioned: "The suspect was operating under the name Vijay Das. He arrived in Mumbai 5-6 months ago. Initially, he stayed in Mumbai for a few days and then moved to the surrounding areas. He was employed at a housekeeping agency."

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of rendering Indian borders permeable, allowing illegal entry by Bangladeshis who engage in criminal activities.

On the other hand, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh commended the prompt response of the Mumbai Police and accused opposition parties of endorsing illegal immigration.

The incident transpired at 2 a.m. on January 16 at Saif's 12th-floor apartment in Bandra. The assailant reportedly accessed the actor's residence via the staircase.
