Why Has AYUSH Doctor Nusrat Parveen Not Joined Duty?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, December 31 (NationPress) Dr Nusrat Parveen, an AYUSH doctor who gained notoriety following an incident where Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar publicly removed her hijab, has failed to report for duty as the final joining deadline lapsed on December 31.
While 63 other AYUSH doctors have successfully commenced their duties, Dr Nusrat Parveen did not attend on the last day.
With the deadline now passed, her future in the role seems doubtful.
Patna Civil Surgeon Dr Avinash Kumar Singh confirmed that Dr Nusrat Parveen also did not show up for duty on Wednesday.
He mentioned that the health department had already granted a deadline extension once, and no further extensions have been provided.
Dr Singh stated, “The chances of her joining now are very slim.” Nonetheless, he clarified that if Dr Nusrat Parveen files a written request to the Health Department detailing her reasons for not joining on time, her situation may be reviewed only if the department issues specific directives.
He further emphasized that such requests are evaluated rigorously at the departmental level, and no local decisions can be made without official sanction.
The controversy surrounding Dr Nusrat Parveen escalated after a video circulated online, allegedly depicting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar removing her hijab during a Health Department event aimed at distributing appointment letters on December 15.
This incident has provoked significant backlash and political discourse, leading to ongoing scrutiny of the Chief Minister's actions, particularly from opposition leaders like the RJD.
As of now, uncertainty looms over whether Dr Nusrat Parveen will take up her position as an AYUSH doctor.
With the deadline for joining now expired, her appointment remains in jeopardy unless the health department issues explicit instructions.
