Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Dec 19 (NationPress) The legal challenges for Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are escalating as a complaint has been lodged against him and the Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's (CJM) court in Muzaffarpur, stemming from an alleged incident involving a female doctor’s hijab.
The court has acknowledged the complaint, with a hearing set for January 3, 2026.
In a statement to the media, complainant Mohammad Raju Naiyar expressed, “The manner in which an individual in a constitutional role treated a female doctor is unacceptable. We have sought legal recourse to uphold women's dignity and justice.”
Naiyar, who serves as the state general secretary of the Bihar Pradesh Minority Morcha, filed the complaint on Friday.
The allegations suggest that during a ceremony for distributing appointment letters to newly appointed AYUSH doctors, Chief Minister Kumar allegedly held the hijab of Dr. Nusrat Parveen and attempted to remove it.
The complainant asserted that this alleged act not only disrespected the sentiments of the doctor but also gravely insulted women and members of the minority group.
Minister Sanjay Nishad has also been implicated, accused of publicly endorsing Kumar’s actions, which, according to the complainant, conveyed a harmful message to society and resulted in humiliation.
The complainant’s attorney, Advocate Suraj Kumar, noted that the complaint has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 76, 352, 79, 299, and 302.
The case is now in the court's hands, with further developments anticipated at the next hearing date.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is embroiled in controversy following allegations that he removed the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor during an appointment letter distribution ceremony for AYUSH doctors in Patna on December 15.
Notably, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Health Minister Mangal Pandey were also present during the event.
