Did Bihar CM Remove a Woman Doctor's Hijab?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Dec 15 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has stirred controversy after claims surfaced that he removed the hijab of a female doctor during a ceremony for distributing appointment letters in Patna on Monday.
The incident was highlighted through a brief video clip, prompting severe backlash from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
The RJD posted an 11-second clip of the occurrence on its official X account, expressing disapproval of the Chief Minister's actions.
In a post on X, the RJD stated, "What has happened to Nitish Ji? Has his mental state completely deteriorated, or has Nitish Babu now become a 100 percent member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh?"
The footage shows Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sharing the stage with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Health Minister Mangal Pandey during the event.
In response to the incident, State RJD Spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad stated that this act was an affront to both women and the Muslim community.
"The act of removing a Muslim woman's hijab by the Chief Minister, while distributing appointment letters, is an insult to women. This incident showcases the NDA government's stance towards the Muslim community," Ahmad remarked.
He further accused Nitish Kumar of engaging in politics that appeases the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
"The Constitution of India guarantees every citizen the freedom to adhere to their religious practices. Such conduct from a Chief Minister raises serious concerns about the government's operation and ideological direction," he added.
Demanding accountability from the Bihar government, RJD Spokesperson Ahmad insisted that CM Nitish Kumar should publicly apologize, stating that the act has offended the feelings of women and minorities.
This controversy emerged during an official function where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar distributed appointment letters to 1,283 AYUSH doctors (Ayurvedic, Homeopathic, and Unani) at Samvad Hall in the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
After the event, CM Nitish Kumar tweeted on his official X account, saying, "Today, I attended the appointment letter distribution ceremony for 1,283 AYUSH doctors at Samvad Hall. This initiative will create opportunities for new talent in the healthcare sector and enhance traditional medicine practices. My heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the newly appointed AYUSH doctors."
To date, there has been no formal response from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar or the Bihar government regarding the opposition's allegations.
