Bhubaneswar, April 8 (NationPress) – In a relentless effort to combat corruption among state government officials, the Odisha Vigilance Agency conducted extensive searches on Wednesday at various properties linked to a high-ranking member of the Department of Water Resources. This investigation centers around allegations that he has amassed wealth that far exceeds his legitimate income sources.

According to vigilance officials, these searches were prompted by claims of possessing assets disproportionate to his known income. The targeted official, Rajesh Chandra Mohanty, who serves as the Additional Chief Engineer for Dam Safety in Odisha, was subjected to simultaneous raids at six different locations across Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal districts.

The operation involved searching multiple sites, including a three-story residential building in Baramunda Housing Board Colony, his ancestral home in Kolhasingh village in Jajpur, a relative's residence in Deula Sahi, Jubilee Town, a chamber at his office in Bhubaneswar, a double-story property and a farmhouse in Bhapur, Dhenkanal, and an associate's house in Nayabazar, Cuttack.

A total of six teams from the Odisha Vigilance, comprising one Additional Superintendent of Police, 11 Deputy Superintendents of Police, nine Inspectors, eight Assistant Sub-Inspectors, and additional support staff, executed the searches under the authority of Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack.

During these searches, officials uncovered significant assets belonging to Mohanty, estimated to be worth several crores. These include a lavish multi-story building in Bhubaneswar, a farmhouse covering 1.71 acres with a double-story structure, eight valuable land parcels—one in Bhubaneswar and one in Kalinga Nagar, Jajpur, along with six in Bhapur, Dhenkanal. Furthermore, they found bank deposits exceeding Rs 1.70 crore, cash amounting to Rs 6.23 lakh, gold jewelry weighing 350 grams, and two luxury vehicles.

Vigilance officials are currently interrogating Mohanty to trace the origins of these assets, and further discoveries of additional wealth are anticipated, potentially inflating the total asset valuation.
