Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, March 7 (NationPress) - The Odisha Vigilance Department conducted extensive searches on Saturday at various locations connected to Pramod Ray, an assistant executive engineer from the Derabish Irrigation Sub-Division, amid allegations of him accumulating wealth significantly exceeding his legitimate income sources.
The operation commenced early in the day, targeting seven locations across five districts, namely Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Dhenkanal.
The searches were sanctioned by the Special Judge, Vigilance in Cuttack, after initial inquiries revealed substantial asset accumulation by Ray.
A substantial Vigilance team spearheaded the operation, which included two additional superintendents of police, nine deputy superintendents, nine inspectors, and four assistant sub-inspectors, along with technical staff for document examination and property valuation.
Investigators scrutinized several properties linked to Ray and his family members. In Bhubaneswar, they inspected a four-storey building in Johala, Balianta, as well as another residence in the Patia area.
In Cuttack, a double-storey house located at Jajabhairab, Chaudwar, and Ray’s ancestral residence in Ragadi under Banki were also examined.
Additionally, searches were executed at Ray’s office chamber and temporary residence within the Derabish Irrigation Office premises in Kendrapara.
Properties belonging to relatives in Budanga (Bhadrak district) and Sanasathiebatia (Dhenkanal district) were also included in the investigation. Vigilance officials reported that the searches were ongoing, with experts assessing the market value of the properties and investments identified.
A comprehensive report detailing the assets and documents seized will be made available after the investigation concludes.
Recently, the Vigilance wing has intensified its crackdown on corruption among state government officials, with multiple officers from departments such as rural development, works, and revenue facing scrutiny for disproportionate assets.
Earlier this year, Vigilance teams executed raids on engineers and block-level officials across various districts, leading to the initiation of criminal cases and the suspension of officials pending investigations.
